Butterfly pea tea is a magical tea. I discovered this magic tea in December during our trip to the island Koh Phayam in Thailand! Butterfly pea tea has a number of healthy properties as well as changing colour when you add one key ingredient…
- caffeine free
- good for skin and hair
- improves eyesight
- stimulates blood circulation
- detoxifies the whole body
- reduces stress and anxiety
- boots immune system
- reduces pain and inflammation
- can treat urinary problems and eye infections
- and it is believed to slow down ageing
It is said that the Thai people offered butterfly pea tea only to beloved guests. If you were served this beautiful, calming healthy tea you knew you were in the hosts’ good books!
Time needed: 5 minutes.
Butterfly pea tea: maximize flavour & appearance
- Boiling water
Most importantly, is not adding boiling water to the tea leaves. Once the water is boiled, let it sit for about 5-8 mins to cool down. Then add the cooled water to your tea.
- How much tea to use
Start with a small quantity. Ratio: 1tsp/tea cup
Finally, this tea benefits from a long steep. It can steep up to 10 mins. I leave it in for about 5-6 mins. Again this depends on individual taste buds. The longer it steeps the more the taste intensifies. You can experiment and find out what’s best for you.
- Secret ingredient
Above all, serve the tea with a lime wedge. After you pour the tea in your cup, squeeze a tiny bit of the lime and watch the colour change into a deep magnificent violet colour.

Where you can purchase butterfly pea tea?
I have been getting a lot of questions about where to buy this magical tea. My answer is Amazon, however, make sure the tea comes from Thailand as it’s a plant native to Thailand. Furthermore, I would also strongly recommend you purchase an organic/bio quality.
As a result, I experimented with a couple of brands and I love this brand the most, and it’s available on Amazon: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07CLTZBY5/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1638&creative=6742&creativeASIN=B07CLTZBY5&linkCode=as2&tag=beingadelina-21&linkId=6064670fc9d200fe2ba09b57edac89a5
